While I was writing a review of Windows 7, I needed a quick and easy tool for benchmarking the PC’s in the lab to compare before/after results. One of the first hits was for Performance Test, so that’s how I found it. It is not a free tool, but you can download 30-day trial copies of the tool without even giving an e-mail address. I just needed it for a few days, so I tried it out.
This is an excellent tool for quick and easy benchmarking. The full arsenal of tests is relatively speedy and you don’t spend a lot of time waiting on it. It provides a compact set of critical tests that are accurate enough for this type of comparison.
It has a clean and tidy interface and I found everything to be very intuitive. Run all the tests at once, or pick what you want to run. The details displayed after the scan were thorough and clear to understand. I ran it many times during my project and the results seemed to be on a relatively accurate scale. If you need a quick benchmarking tool for documentation sake, give Performance Test a try.
