How many calls have you received about your “final” opportnity to extend the warranty on your car? How many calls do you get when there is nobody on the other end of the line?
If you are like me, these are daily occurances. As the phone carriers and our government continue to allow this freedom of speach, we are trending towards using our phones less and less. And forget about ever picking up a caller you don’t recognize, lest you be harrassed for all eternity!
While my cell number is now public knowledge and likely sold hundreds/thousands of times by companies I trusted with my phone number, there are ways to fight back and at least get a little satisfaction that someone buying my number for marketing purposes wasted maybe a penny or less on me.
I’ve been using Google Voice for decades since it came out in Beta. The promise is a single number that never changes, which can be routed to any other number you’d like, among other automations and call handling features.
My tip of the day: Get yourself a fresh Google Voice number and start handing that out in place of your direct number. Then, go to Settings > Do Not Disturb, enable the toggle switch and watch the slew of 5 second voicemail messages start queuing up with nary a ring or distruption to your day!
